Washington, DC – Following Mike Pompeo’s Senate confirmation hearing today, Farhana Khera, executive director of Muslim Advocates, issued the following statement:

“If confirmed, Mike Pompeo would be the most vocally bigoted Secretary of State in at least a generation. That’s why Muslim Advocates opposed his nomination before it was even finalized, and why we’ve repeatedly urged the Senate to reject his nomination.

His anti-Muslim and anti-LGBTQ bigotry stretches back to the beginning of his public life and has continued throughout his career. His testimony today does nothing to alleviate these concerns.  When someone shows you who they are, believe them.

Mike Pompeo is unfit to be Secretary of State and all Senators of conscience should oppose his confirmation.”
